Commonly known as the red bull ant, this slightly larger than average sized Myrmecia is commonly found in Victoria.
Often displaying their mandibles wide open in a sign of aggression when their nest is disturbed, they will protect the colony at all costs.
Queens can be difficult to locate as they are wingless and dont fly like other species within the genera.
Ant keepers tend to have more success when keeping this species in a natural sand/dirt nest, allowing the queen to dig her own founding chamber.
